Access Policy Advisory Committee Meetings
This Access Policy Advisory Committee advises the director of libraries, staff and Board of County Commissioners about library policies that have a significant impact on the library’s responsibilities as a designated public forum, where citizens have a constitutional right to access information. In the past, the committee has focused primarily on the library’s Internet access policy and Internet filtering, which continue to be significant issues. The committee has also considered the impact of the PATRIOT Act on privacy of customer records. Several current issues warrant the committee’s attention: use of RFID technology for materials handling, the library’s selection process for replacement Internet filtering software, and the development of a policy for the library’s public blogs and other public uses of social software.
Meetings
The committee usually meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month from 11:30–12:30 at Central Library. Meetings are held when there is committee business to be discussed and acted upon. Agendas are posted two weeks in advance of the meeting. Contact Cindy Gibbon at 503.988.5496 for information about attending a meeting.
