Internships
Multnomah County Library offers a limited number of internships when requested. Qualifications vary by internship, but generally, interns must be a current student in a library/information science program or related discipline and pass a criminal records check. To obtain an internship with MCL:
- Submit a volunteer application
- Upon receipt, staff will review the application. Note: applicants will only be considered if:
- Applicant is obtaining a related degree or has recently obtained such a degree
- Applicants need to complete a minimum of 100-125 hours
Please note, the approval and placement process may take up to one month or more. Applicants wishing to start an internship prior to that time will not be considered. Read our FAQ for more information on library internships.
Job Shadowing
As business needs permit, and on a limited basis, Multnomah County Library may grant requests for job shadowing by students enrolled in a library program and prospective library students. Individuals interested in requesting a job shadowing experience should fill out this form for consideration.
