Support the Library

Multnomah County Library is a great library because of its many supporters, and there are many ways to get involved.

Friends of the Library is a nonprofit advocacy organization founded in 1972 to support Multnomah County Library. With funds raised through membership dues, annual used book sales and the Friends' Library Store Central Library, the Friends of the Library supports a variety of library programs (including Pageturners) and promotes public involvement in the library.

The Library Foundation supports the work of the library with gifts, large and small, from thousands of individuals, businesses and foundations. Last year, the foundation helped the library reach more than 165,000 people, purchase more than 62,000 books and expand 11 different programs, including initiatives to help at-risk children, seniors, teachers and those hit hard by the tough economy. The Library Foundation was the lead funder of the successful Measure 26-114 campaign and is a four-star charity with Charity Navigator, the largest charity watchdog organization in the nation.

The Library Foundation exists to support Multnomah County Library’s leadership and innovation and help the library address emerging community needs through private support. The foundation and the library work together, in a strong partnership, to determine where private funds can have the greatest impact and at the same time, not supplant the public's important role in supporting a strong library system. The Library Foundation is an independent non-profit, designated by the library as the organization that receives bequests and planned gifts that benefit Multnomah County Library.
