About the exhibit

Elizabeth I, Henry VIII, “Bloody Mary,” Edward the boy king — the lives and influence of the Tudor monarchies, lasting from 1485 until 1603, have remained vividly with us for more than 400 years. Recent popular media, like the television series The Tudors and the film Elizabeth, have offered their interpretations of this fascinating family's political and personal intrigues.

In this John Wilson Special Collections exhibit, you can explore original printed works that were at the center of the religious and political battles of the period: scholarly works by Henry VIII and Mary Tudor, early editions of The Book of Common Prayer, and other literature of period. From the world of art, there are court portraits by Hans Holbein and other examples of art and architecture that bear the name of the dynasty. The exhibit also displays works that show the continuing influence of Tudor lives through the ages.
