About Central Library
Historic Central Library in downtown Portland is the heart of the Multnomah County Library system. First opened in September 1913 and extensively renovated in 1994-97, Central Library has more than 17 miles of bookshelves and 130 public computers.
Multnomah County Library's systemwide catalog — two million books, periodicals, music, movies and more — serves patrons of Central Library and all neighborhood libraries. This library houses collections of materials in Spanish, Chinese, Russian and Vietnamese, and has Spanish-speaking staff. Patrons also enjoy e-books and downloadable music; research and reading resources; and library events and services, including those especially for kids and teens.
