New Parent Gifts
This winter, UPS begins delivering library gift packages to first-time parents of babies born in Multnomah County. The package arrives when baby is two months old and includes information on children's developmental phases, an introduction to the library, a coupon for baby's first library card, a DVD for parents and a classic baby book.
Research has shown that, from ages 0 to 3, a child goes through a critical window for brain development that supports lifelong literacy. Reading, talking and singing to a child during that window can determine a child's future as a reader.
Expansion of the New Parent Gifts Program is made possible by The Library Foundation with a grant from UPS. Additional support is provided by Boone Bridge Books.
