New Parent Program

Each month, UPS delivers an informational package from the library to first-time parents of babies born in Multnomah County, arriving when a baby is a few months old. The package introduces new parents to the library and includes easy-to-understand information on a child's early brain development, an application for baby's first library card, an educational DVD for parents, a classic baby book and coupons for free books with library visits.

Research has shown that, from ages 0 to 3, a child goes through a critical window for brain development that supports lifelong literacy. Reading, talking and singing to a child during that window can determine a child's future as a reader.

UPSExpansion of the New Parent Gifts Program is made possible by The Library Foundation with a grant from UPS. Additional support is provided by Boone Bridge Books.
