Zine Collection

Multnomah County Library's zine collection is at Belmont, Central, Hillsdale, Holgate, Hollywood, Midland, North Portland, Northwest, and Sellwood-Moreland libraries. Zines on many subjects are available, from personal stories to zines about cooking, work, politics, typewriters, health, and more. You can read more about the library's zine collection philosophy in Multnomah County Library's Collection Development Policy.
You can get advance notice of new zines arriving at your library by subscribing to the new zines rss feed. (What's an rss feed, you ask? Get a quick introduction and check out the library's other rss feeds.)
Select libraries also offer zine exchanges, where you can trade and share your zines with others, or read zines other people have shared, on the honor system.
Take a look at photographs of some of the neighborhood library zine collections and the zine exchanges on our flickr page!
All of the library's zines are in the library catalog and can be placed on hold, checked out, and renewed just like other library materials. To find zines in the catalog you can search just like you would for a book. You can do basic keyword searches, like:
If you are looking for a specific zine, you can look by title:
Or you can look for a particular zinester's work with the author search:
If you just want to look at the big list of all the library's zines, use the subject search – and look for the subject Zines.
When you've found the zine you want, check the catalog to see if it is available at your neighborhood library. If it is, go grab it and check it out! If it isn't, or if you're not at the library, you can place a hold on the zine and have it sent to any Multnomah County library. You will get a phone call or email when the zine is ready for you to pick up.

Is there a zine you think the library should have? Please give us your suggestions! If you have other zine-related comments, please contact us with them too.
