The hottest spot in town

Can't wait until the next zine event at the library? Listen back to previous Zinesters Talking readings and other great zine-related lectures, question-and-answer sessions, and more in the library's podcast collection! As a special treat, watch a slideshow of images from the clip art zine Craphound, while listening to creator Sean Tejaratchi's talk at the Historic Zinesters Talking event in November 2009.

Ongoing: DIY Crafts

No matter what the season, your library is always hosting lots of fun craft programs. Classes, workshops, and get-togethers feature a wide range of crafty topics: knitting, jewelry making, scrapbooking, making holiday pop-up cards, decoupage, and many others!

You can find all the library's crafty events by searching Event Finder and limiting your search to "Arts and Crafts" under "Choose a PROGRAM TYPE."

February 28: Writers Resource Fair

Writers and potential writers are invited to meet representatives of organizations offering support and opportunities for writers: Attend the Small Press Book Sale. Visit the Sterling Room for Writers. Tour the John Wilson Special Collections. Light refreshments provided, and it's all happening in the U.S. Bank Room at Central Library on Sunday, February 28th.

March 3 & 17: Creative Correspondence (for teens)

In an age of texting, emails, facebook and phone calls, snail-mail letters — hand-written, sealed and stamped — have become rare treats. In the spirit of author Nick Bantock’s luminous Griffin & Sabine series, join artist Anya Hankin as we revive the art of letter writing. During this workshop participants are invited to make your own decorative envelopes, collage and paint your pages, embellish your writing with calligraphy pens, and transform your written messages into works of art. The Creative Correspondence workshop will take place twice: on Wednesday, March 3rd from 4-5:30 p.m. at Midland Library; and on Wednesday, March 17th from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Albina Library All teens are welcome!

April 20: Zinesters Talking Dino Night

Dinosaur drawing by Rio SafariA celebration of dinosaurs — which are awesome, therefore people who like dinosaurs are also awesome, and people who draw dinosaurs are even awesomer. So, come out and meet Rio Safari and James Williams, two awesome guys who will show-and-tell about their awesomest dinosaur mini-comics, plus a sweet cartoon. It's all happening Tuesday, April 20th, from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in Central Library's U.S. Bank Room.
