Celebrate Kwanzaa
Join in the festivities at North Portland Library on Saturday, December 27 at 2 p.m. and learn more about the meaning of Kwanzaa!
Kwanzaa is an African American celebration centered around seven principles known as Nguzo Sabo. The seven principles are Umoja (Unity); Kujichagulia (Self-Determination); Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility); Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics); Nia (Purpose); Kuumba (Creativity); and Imani (Faith). During Kwanzaa, the community is encouraged to consider these principles and find ways to apply them throughout the new year.
We Are Our Stories: The Celebration of Kujichagulia
We invite you to share your stories: ones you've heard, ones you've made up, ones passed down from your family. A time to learn, a time to laugh, and a time to be who we are. Featuring fabric art by renowned artist Adriene Cruz. Light refreshments will be served.
