Electronic Resources

Use the library's many online tools to find information about countries. Start by visiting the Library website and clicking on Research. Once in, try these resources.

Clicking on Articles takes you to a list of electronic magazines, journals and newspapers that the library subscribes to. Most are available from home and are all available at the library. Many of these online publications contain full text articles.

The World Wide Web is another good place to begin. The Internet is constantly changing. Check with reference staff for help finding the best websites, or if you're not in a library, you can ask us a question by phone or using your computer.

Start on the Web by going to Research, then to Topics, and clicking on Travel / Geography. Here you'll find:

Brief country information, simple maps, general travel guides but also travel advice and [unverified] input from other travellers (try searching on Tibet for an example of this).

Travel information from the well-known publisher of travel guide books.

Lots of links to information about geography and websites with online maps. Part of the Research section of the library's website.
Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names

Use this thesaurus to dentify worldwide place names and geographic features.
