About us

This guide was assembled by Brandon A. Barnett, Emily-Jane Dawson and Jennifer May, three of the over 90 librarians at Multnomah County Library.

Like all librarians, we're motivated by curiosity. We collect odd bits of information and poke around in strange places. Let us guide you to some of the more... interesting places near your library and around your community.

We've ferreted out parks, restaurants, shops, landmarks, public art and other "destinations" that we think exemplify what is quirky, beautiful, interesting and unique about our communities. We do not aim to be a comprehensive guide, but instead to showcase lesser-known gems that are worth checking out after you've visited any of Multnomah County's 17 libraries.

This guide is intended to appeal to a wide variety of people, whether alone, with friends, or with kids and parents. You'll find things to do when you want to read, learn, try something new, jump up and down or when you just want to sit and watch the world go by. When selecting, we focused on free or inexpensive places.

Our selection process included surveying staff from many different branch libraries, asking all our friends, exploring neighborhoods and racking our brains. Since space is limited, we couldn't include every fabulous thing we found or was suggested. We will rotate content frequently. Also, you can find library-sponsored events listed in Multnomah County Library's Event Finder.

If you know of something you think we should include in updates of this guide, please let us know. We can't promise we'll include your suggestions, but we'd love to check them out!

Enjoy! We hope you'll use this guide to have fun, learn new stuff, explore and impress your friends and family.
