Finding books in the Library catalog

The Library catalog is the doorway to travel books, videos, audio language learning materials, maps and much more.

You can search for travel-related materials in several ways.

Keyword search

Keyword search displays items containing the words you type. The examples below are keyword searches.

Subject headings

Next, use specific subject headings to locate a complete list of guidebooks. Use subject headings such as the following:

Tip: Don't know the subject headings? No problem, most people don't. Here's a suggestion. Start with a keyword search. When you see an item you like, look at its record. There is a clickable link to the subject headings for that item. That link will lead you to other similar titles.

Series

Do a series search from the "more search options" screen of the catalog.

Another approach is to search for a particular travel series. Individual series offer different emphases such as art and culture, budget, adventure and more. Some examples include:

Special interests

For people with special interests or needs, the library offers a wide variety of titles. A few sample titles are:

Don't forget to check the subject headings on the records of these titles.

Booklist

Some people benefit from reading about the journeys of other travelers. Travelogues can prepare you for a trip or you can enjoy them in lieu of travel. For a booklist of selected titles, see Armchair Journeys on the library's Readers website.
