Travel the Historic Columbia Highway and visit the waterfalls along the way. Visit Multnomah Lodge and Falls, the falls are 602 feet the second highest in the United States. Stop at the Vista House, Crown Point State Park for a view of the gorge. Cross over to Washington and visit the Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center, which has exhibits on the natural and cultural history of the gorge plus a corlis steam engine.
Gilbert House Children's Museum

Solve a mystery, stage a puppet show or uncover minerals in "Cave of Wonders." The museum is dedicated to A.C. Gilbert inventor of the Erector Set. Visit the toy hall of fame and create a famous toy yourself.
John Day Fossil Beds

The fossil beds are 40 million years old. Over 160 different kinds of mammals were discovered in the beds. The Visitor center has seasonal hours, but the trails and beds are open year round.
Mt St Helens

View a video of the eruption at the Visitor's Center. Enter the "lateral blast zone" where hot winds traveling at 600 mph destroyed everything.
