Journey through the books of David Small and his favorite collaborator and wife Sarah Stewart. You'll enter a world of bold design, intriguing perspective and heart-warming affirmation for the love of family, books and fun.

 
LECTURE
A Personal Look • Thursday, November 21, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Their talk will be followed by an opening reception: view the exhibit, purchase books, and have them signed. Refreshments and a toast to this creative pair will top off the evening.


 

ABOUT DAVID SMALL

Used by permission of David Small.Drawing since the tender age of 2, David Small filled the basement walls of his childhood home with murals inspired by the work of Diego Rivera. He went on to earn a masters degree in fine arts from Yale and teach college students. After 14 years of teaching, he realized he needed to focus on his twin loves of illustrating and writing.

Small's So You Want to Be President? won the 2001 Caldecott Medal, and The Gardener, on which he collaborated with his wife, earned a 1998 Caldecott Honor. Other books written by his wife and illustrated by him include The Library and The Journey.

David Small and Sarah Stewart live in Michigan.
