ABOUT CREECH AND HER LECTURECreech's lecture will explore how readers and writers journey together in search of a story. The lecture theme reflects a common aspect of Creech's young adult novels. Her novels are known for their strong character studies of young women on personal journeys of self-discovery. Creech also explores family relationships and histories with depth, warmth and sensitivity. She looks to her own large family, lively childhood and experiences as a teacher for inspiration.
In addition to the 1995 Newbery Medal, Walk Two Moons has received six other international awards. Creech also earned international recognition for Chasing Redbird; its six awards include the American Library's Association's 1998 Best Books for Young Adults and the 1997 Parents' Choice Gold Award.
