Our library is #1 in circulation again

The Public Library Data Service’s most recent rankings have just been released, and once again, Multnomah County Library ranks #1 in circulation of all U.S. libraries. In fiscal year 2005, Multnomah County Library borrowers checked out 19.4 million books and other items.
A typical day at Multnomah County Library looks like this:
- Borrowers check out or renew 54,000 books, DVDs, videos, CD-ROMs and other materials
- 200 people register for an MCL card to access the library's collection and a plethora of online databases
- Library staff answer 2,900 reference questions
- 13,000 people visit the library’s 17 locations
- Customers return 32,600 items
- Library users pick up 5,300 holds for specific books, videos, CDs, board books, etc.
