PORTLAND, OR – North Portland Library will host the annual Do the Right Thing and Read Children's Book Fair on Sat., Sept. 23, from 11 a.m.–2 p.m.

Part of an Urban League of Portland initiative, the free event is for preschool through elementary school-age children and will feature crafts, storytelling and games.

Bookman and Bookwoman, the event's caped crusaders of literacy, will make an appearance, and dollmaker Demetria Ford will show youngsters how to make their own raffia doll.

There also will be a People Who Read area featuring stories read in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, French, German and Chinese. Each child who attends can choose a free book to take home.

The annual event supports and rewards kids who "do the right thing," and last year, more than 400 children and their families attended. The event is supported by the Urban League of Portland, Albina Rotary, Jim Brunke Real Estate, McDonald's on N.E. Grand Ave., and Portland General Electric.

North Portland Library is located at 512 N. Killingsworth St. For more information, please call 503.988.5394.
