PORTLAND, OR – At the library, we know that books can truly change lives. Whether it's an obscure title or a celebrated classic, any book can make a big impact. Some prominent Multnomah County residents agree — and have shared with us their favorite books which are featured in Books We Love, an exhibit on display October 15–November 6, 2006 in the Central Library Collins Gallery, 801 S.W. 10th Ave. in Portland. An opening reception will take place Tuesday, October 17 from 6–7:30 p.m. and will feature music by jazz guitarist Anson Wright. Admission to the gallery and reception is free and the public is invited to attend.

From author Ursula LeGuin to Self Enhancement Inc. Executive Director Tony Hopson, learn more about the people who are shaping our community. Come find out what books inspire your favorite newspaper columnists, local business owners, arts luminaries and elected officials. A photo of each of the participants is accompanied by a personal story, favorite quote or passage, and a copy of the book.

"As people read the stories in this exhibition of why these books are so significant, we hope that they will discover a new favorite of their own," says Molly Raphael, director of libraries.

The Collins Gallery is open the same hours as Central Library: Sunday, noon–5 p.m.; Monday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 a.m.–8 p.m. and Thursday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. For more information go to www.multcolib.org/events/collins.
