PORTLAND, OR – The American Place Theatre's Literature to Life® arts education program will present two theatrical performances of The Kite Runner on Wed., March 1, at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 1126 S.W. Park Ave. in Portland. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

The play will be performed by Arian Moayed and include pre- and post-theatre discussions with Moayed and Gwen Brownson, an American Place Theatre teaching artist. Total running time is approximately 105 minutes.

Adapted from Khaled Hosseini's novel of the same name, the play portrays the relationship of two boys — Amir, a privileged Pashtun, and Hassan, a Hazara servant — and the surprising events that occur in their lives against the backdrop of turmoil in 1970s Afghanistan.

The performances are the final programs of Everybody Reads 2006, Multnomah County Library's fourth annual community reading project made possible by The Library Foundation and presented by The Fred Meyer Foundation. The performances are underwritten by Verizon Yellow Pages.

Throughout the month of February, thousands of community members have borrowed more than 5,800 copies of Khaled Hosseini's debut novel The Kite Runner from Multnomah County libraries and participated in discussions, attended lectures, film screenings and other cultural events in conjunction with Everybody Reads.

Everybody Reads 2006 is presented by The Fred Meyer Foundation. Major sponsors are Portland State University, Verizon Yellow Pages, Clear Channel Outdoor, Oregon Public Broadcasting and TriMet.
