PORTLAND, OR – Multnomah County Library supporters and staff are pleased after Tuesday's successful passage of a five-year levy.

As of Wednesday morning, over 60% of voters had approved the levy.

"This vote is a great affirmation of the value our community places on library services," said Library Advisory Board Chair Alice Meyer. "In tough economic times, libraries matter more than ever."

The passage of the library levy maintains current library hours and continues library services and book purchases at the current level.

The levy will take effect July 1, 2007. "Multnomah County voters have said 'yes' to maintaining library funding and we look forward to providing the level of services that our customers want and expect," said Director of Libraries Molly Raphael. "Great communities have great libraries, and Multnomah County voters have reaffirmed their commitment to this ideal."
