PORTLAND, OR Multnomah County Library's Central Library will host "Portland Music Remembered," a series of four musical concerts celebrating Portland music and composers from the early 20th century. The concerts will take place in the Collins Gallery on the third floor of Central Library, 801 S.W. 10th Ave., Portland. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
The concerts will offer an opportunity to hear music that once filled Portland concert halls and other venues, but is not often played today. All of the music played in the concerts comes from the extensive collection of printed music scores available in the collections of Multnomah County Library. The "Portland Music Remembered" series is made possible by a gift from the Dennis Uniform Music Programming at Central Endowment and The Library Foundation.
On Sunday, April 2 from 1-2:30 p.m., Gayle and Philip Neuman present "A Thread of History," featuring music from the eras of Lewis and Clark and the 1905 exposition in Portland.
On Sunday, April 9 from 1-2:30 p.m., vocalist Irene Weldon and pianist Bill Crane will present "Concerts of Early Portland," featuring music for voice and piano.
On Sunday, April 23 from 1-2:30 p.m., Susan DeWitt Smith will present "Early Portland Composers" with music for piano featuring the works of Dent Mowrey and others.
On Sunday, April 30 from 1-2:30 p.m., Gayle and Philip Neuman end the series with "Portland, the Columbia River and the Willamette Valley" with local songs from the early days of Portland.
