Multnomah County Library presents jazz film discussion series

PORTLAND, OR Multnomah County Library will host a six-part film viewing and discussion series called "Looking At: Jazz, America's Art Form." The series explores the cultural and social history of jazz as it developed as an art from in the United States.
All programs will be held at North Portland Library, 512 N. Killingsworth St., Portland. All programs are free and open to the public. Dates and film titles are as follows:
- Saturday, Feb. 10, 35 p.m.
- Ken Burns' Jazz, Episode 1
- Sunday, Feb. 11, 35 p.m.
- Harlem Renaissance: The Music & Rhythms That Started a Cultural Revolution
- Ken Burns' Jazz, Episode 2
- Wednesday, Feb. 14, 67:30 p.m.
- Lady Day: The Many Faces of Billie Holiday
- Wednesday, Feb. 21, 67:30 p.m.
- Benny Goodman: Adventures in the Kingdom of Swing
- Wednesday, Feb. 28, 67:30 p.m.
- Celebrating Bird: The Triumph of Charlie Parker
- Wednesday, March 7, 67:30 p.m.
- A Night in Havana: Dizzy Gillespie in Cuba
Local teacher and writer Lynn Darroch will serve as discussion leader for the series.
Multnomah County Library is one of 50 libraries and nonprofit organizations nationwide selected to participate in the project's pilot program organized by Re:New Media in partnership with the American Library Association, Jazz at Lincoln Center and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
