PORTLAND, OR Vailey Oehlke is the new deputy director for Multnomah County Library. Director of Libraries Molly Raphael appointed Oehlke effective January 1. Previously, Oehlke was director of the library system's Central Library.
“Vailey has provided very effective leadership at Central Library, and I'm confident she'll bring great vision and dedication to her new position,” said Raphael. “She is strongly committed to the library's mission, which is to empower people in our community to 'read, learn and connect.'”
Oehlke, 42, has held several progressively responsible positions at MCL since joining its staff in 1997 as a youth outreach librarian. After becoming an administrator at Central Library in 2003, she became its director in 2004. Oehlke is a graduate of Northern Illinois University and earned her masters of library science from the University of Illinois, Urbana.
