Lifelong Learning Center

Collection Policy

The Lifelong Learning Center Collection is housed at the Rockwood Branch Library. It is shelved in an area separate from the general collection, adjacent to the Lifelong Learning Center room.

This collection consists of English language learning materials, such as workbooks, readers, GED manuals, and grammar, spelling and vocabulary books. Materials are in many formats, including video, DVD, and recorded book foramt. The Lifelong Learning Center collection serves English language learners, adults learning to read and individuals seeking GED certification. It further supports the goals of the Lifelong Learning Center as currently provided by the Rockwood Library and Mount Hood Community College tutors.

The Lifelong Learning Collection serves the large immigrant population in the surrounding neighborhoods. The Rockwood neighborhood is an ethnically diverse community with a dominance of Spanish and Russian speaking families. The local community also includes Anglos and African-Americans, and immigrants from Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The socio-economic status of many residents reflects the increasing poverty of East County.
