About the author
The Kite Runner is the first novel by Khaled Hosseini. Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1965. His father served as a member of the Afghan foreign ministry and his mother was a teacher at a girls' high school. As the turmoil of a coup and a Soviet invasion overtook the country in the late 1970s, his family sought political asylum in the United States and moved to San Jose, California. Hosseini attended Santa Clara University and the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree in 1993. He is currently writing a second novel, Dreaming in Titanic City, due in 2006, that focuses upon the lives of Afghan women and spans several decades. In addition to his writing, Hosseini still works as an internist in California, where he lives with his wife and two children.
