It is an honor for me that The Kite Runner has been selected by the Multnomah County Library for its Everybody Reads 2006 book. I want to thank everyone involved in organizing events around this book. It is my hope that The Kite Runner and its cultural, historical and thematic facets will generate rich discussions in the community. I also hope, purely as a writer, that this tale resonates with readers and that its characters continue to linger in the mind long after the last page is read. As an Afghan, I hope that The Kite Runner allows readers a glimpse into Afghan culture and humanizes, to some extent, the plight of Afghan people and what they have endured in the last quarter of a century. Thank you for selecting The Kite Runner.
