How ebrary works
ebrary facilitates research and document exploration. Use the powerful search capabilities to gradually narrow your focus by specifying subjects, keywords, authors, publishers, publication years or other information available for the documents.
At any time, you can explore the search results.
- View the document's table of contents, and see a ranking based on the relevance of your search term(s) in each chapter.
- Open the document in an ebrary reader to explore and read the document.
- Search the document from an ebrary reader for additional terms.
- Copy text.
- Print pages.
- Save citations to RefWorks or EndNote.
- If you sign in, you can highlight text, add notes and organize information on your personal bookshelf into folders.
How to navigate ebrary
You can use the tabs across the top of the ebrary window for navigation:
- Info provides information specific to your library system.
- Search holds the latest search results and provides search tools and a search history.
- QuickView displays the latest document in the ebrary QuickView Reader for reading, printing, copying and annotating.
- Bookshelf contains documents you have annotated. You can organize the documents into folders.
Accessibility mode
For users with accessibility issues, ebrary supports Accessibility Mode. The Accessibility Mode page describes how to turn on Accessibility mode and how the operations change when you use Accessibility mode. This Help system describes the system with Accessibility turned off.
Enabling the screen reader for the visually impaired
The ebrary QuickView reader display does not include documents text that can be read by screen readers (such as JAWS). This is true even if you have selected accessibility mode.
To enable the screen reader access for QuickView
- Inform your librarian that you are visually impaired and that you want direct access to the text of ebrary documents with your screen reader. Your librarian will contact support@ebrary.com and request screen reader access for you.
- After ebrary support staff has modified your account, log in with your user name.
When you choose to display a document in QuickView, the document content becomes available to the screen reader and can be traversed with the screen reader commands you are accustomed to.
System requirements
Before you begin, check your browser for the following:
- JavaScript is enabled.
- Cookies are enabled.
- Pop-ups are allowed for *.ebrary.com.
If you use firewall or security software, you might need to modify your configuration to prevent the software from blocking ebrary.
How to use help
ebrary's help system, accessible from the upper right-hand corner of the ebrary website, discusses topics such as installing, searching and annotating documents.
The ebrary Unity Reader has its own help system, accessible from the InfoTools menu or from the question mark (?) in the lower-left corner of the window.
