The Great Library Card Adventure
What is the Great Library Card Adventure?
The Great Library Card Adventure is a library card campaign for kindergarten classrooms in Multnomah County, presented by the Multnomah County Library School Corps. This year's campaign targets students in grades K-5; educators are also welcome to apply for cards. We want every student, faculty and staff member in the county to have a Multnomah County Library card. A library card is the key to the fullest use of Multnomah County Library's information resources.
The 2009 Great Library Card Adventure will run from October 5 through December 4.
How can my school sign up?
Principals and school library staff in Multnomah County elementary schools should receive a letter inviting them to join the campaign by mid-September 2009. If your school does not receive a letter and you would like to join the campaign, please call or e-mail the School Corps Lead Worker at 503.988.6004 or lib.school.corps@multcolib.org.
Where do I send library card applications?
Send completed library card applications to:
Multnomah County Library School Corps
205 NE Russell
Portland, OR 97212
Applications can also be labelled "School Corps" and dropped off at any Multnomah County Library branch. Remember that library card applications must be signed on the back by the student and parent before they are submitted.
What are the prizes?
- Teachers receive a $5 coupon for the Title Wave bookstore when they send in the library card applications from their classes.
- Students (both those who already had cards and those who get them through the program) receive Great Library Card Adventure stickers.
- Classrooms with 100% of the students signed up for library cards will be entered in a drawing to win one of three collections of age-appropriate fiction and non-fiction books for their classroom. Classes with 100% of students signed up that do not win a book collection will receive a gift certificate for a local bookstore.
Other frequently asked questions
- What about students who already have cards?
They don't need to fill out applications. Just tally them in the "Number of Students who Already Had Cards" box on your tally sheet. They will receive Great Library Card Adventure stickers. - What about students who have had cards but have lost them?
Have them fill out applications, and we will make them new cards. There is no charge. - What about students who live in another county?
Residents who live in Multnomah County Library's free service area can get cards through our reciprocal borrowing agreement. Residents of other areas would have to pay for cards, so they are ineligible for this program.
