Literacy Volunteers at the Library
To become a volunteer at the Multnomah County Library contact Volunteer Services. There are several opportunities to volunteer in the area of literacy.
Talk Time Volunteers facilitate a safe environment where students from different native languages can practice English. Training and materials are provided. Sessions meet once a week at various branches.
Citizenship Classes Volunteer teachers commit to one or two six-session classes a year to help students prepare for the Citizenship test.
Intercambio Volunteers facilitate a safe environment where those learning English or Spanish can share in conversation. Half the time is spent conversing in English, and the other half in Spanish.
GED/ESL Computer Lab Assistants Volunteers help students use online resources to prepare for the GED and help non-native speakers access practice sites online in library computer lab settings.
