Submit an entry to the Teen Writing Contest

Participate in a writing contest planned, sponsored, and judged by members of the Hollywood Library's Teen Council, with gift cards from Powell's Books as prizes.

Prompt (optional):Take a historical figure or time period. Add a completely unexpected situation or setting. What if George Washington was in The Hunger Games? (What district would he be from, to start with?) What if King Henry VIII was on a dating show? Books like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies or Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter may help inspire you. We look forward to seeing what you come up with!

$75 gift cards to Powell's Books will be awarded to the following winners:

Runners up in each of these categories will receive a $25 gift card for Powell's. Prizes made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the Library.

The contest is open to Multnomah County residents and/or library cardholders in grades 6-12. Submissions must be in English and no longer than 1,500 words. The deadline to submit entries is April 2, 2012. There are several ways to send submissions: Fill out the form below, e-mail mclcontest@hotmail.com, send surface mail to Hollywood Library (4040 N.E. Tillamook St., Portland OR 97212, attn: Laural Winter), or drop off your submission at any Multnomah County library.
